Massage Therapy #01

MASSAGE THERAPY

SWEDISH, DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE,MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE & AROMATHERAPY
Full body massage is excellent for relaxation of taut and stiff muscles, pain relief, improved mobility of joints, revitalisation through blood and lymph circulation and body fluid, promotion of recovery and anxiety and panic relief.
Swedish massage: a classic treatment which represents the western standard for massage. Swedish massage uses softer strokes on the bonier and more delicate parts of the body, and stronger strokes where there is thicker muscle coverage. This sensitivity to pressure makes it ideal for relaxation.
Deep tissue massage: aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons.
Manual Lymph Drainage: is deeply relaxing and helps the body to be cleansed of toxins and accumulated products and waste. This is achieved through gentle rhythmical circling and pumping movements of the skin which stimulates the lymphatic system. MLD can be helpful for: Oedema, sprains and haematomata, scar treatment, migraine, stress and detox.
Aromatherapy: Hippocrates said “the way to health is to have an aromatic bath and scented massage every day”. The use of aromatic oils enhances the massage treatment and makes it a positively pampering experience. Particular health problems are treated by the therapist by choosing those oils that have the right smell and therapeutic properties.

Massage Therapy #02HOT STONES MASSAGE
Stone massage therapy has been used in many different cultures for many years. Healers used rocks from the river beds and warmed them either in hot coals or hot water. Placing the hot and cold stones on the body and arranging them along the energy centres of the body helps to relax the muscles, reduces pain or discomfort and boosts a healing process. Warm stones expand the blood vessels, helping to move blood faster round the body, sedating the nervous system. The application of cold stones stimulates the nervous system by causing the blood vessels to contract and increasing the lymph flow of waste materials round the body. The placing of the stones is accompanied by a firm, deeper massage which intensifies further as heat and cold alternate and penetrate the body. Hot Stone therapy can help with muscular aches, pains, and strains, rheumatic and arthritic conditions, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, back pain, and insomnia. It also helps to improve circulation and can help reduce stress, anxiety, tension and depression.
Hot Stones Massage every Tuesday from 2.30 pm to 9.30pm with Christine Rogers:
1½ hours and costs £45; contact her on 02380-849212 for info or appointments.

Massage Therapy #03REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology uses light pressure to massage each of the points in the toes, feet and ankles to release tension, remove energy blockages, disperse accumulations of calcium and uric acid, stimulate blood circulation and promote healing of both body and mind. Gentle pressure is applied to each pressure point and, where there are corresponding physical problems, the client may experience some slight discomfort and/or the therapist may feel some blockages in the area. For example, when the practitioner touches the reflex point that corresponds to the gall bladder, if the client has a problem with that organ, then some discomfort may be felt in the foot. Generally, most clients report that a reflexology treatment is wonderfully relaxing and soothing, and many people fall asleep. Reflexology can be used to treat a wide range of disorders including skin and respiratory conditions, migraine, PMS and menopausal problems, chronic fatigue, stress, depression and anxiety. Reflexology should be avoided during the fist three months of pregnancy.

Massage Therapy #04BOWEN
Bowen technique involves a rolling type movement over fascia, muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. It does not involve deep or prolonged contact with muscle tissues as in most kinds of massage. It may seem to have much in common with massage-based therapies but the Bowen technique incorporates a very holistic approach in which physical changes in the body post-treatment are actually the result of the body realigning itself, rather than as a result of any physical manipulation. Each move aims to address the entire system producing maximum results with minimal intervention. There are frequent pauses between movements, during which the practitioner leaves the room, to allow the body time to respond and benefit. The treatment is usually carried out whilst the client is clothed, and no oils are used. As well as initiating a deep state of relaxation that encourages the body to heal itself, the Bowen technique is also extremely effective for pain. It is used as a remedial therapy for numerous ailments including skeletal and muscular problems, allergies, respiratory problems, digestive problems, RSI, teeth grinding, headaches and sciatica, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.
Available on Wednesday from 2.30 pm to 9.30pm with Marie-Ange Gonzalez:
costs £32 for 45 minutes: contact her on 01722-744551 for appointments.

Massage Therapy #05INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
Indian head massage is based on the ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. The aim of Indian head massage is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. The client, fully clothed, sits in a massage chair for the treatment. The therapist uses a range of different movements including application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. It is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis. The experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving the client feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate. Available Wednesdays between 2.30 and 9.30 with Marie-Ange Gonzalez and Friday 2.30 to 9.30pm with Jacqui-lyn Burt-Shears; duration 45 min. at a cost of £32; call Marie-Ange on 01722-744551 and Jacqui-lyn on 01425-482577 for appointments.
