ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
What for?The Alexander Technique is a highly sophisticated system through which the client is taught to recognise and prevent damaging postural habits which is usually accompanied by a change in self image.
Benefits
The immediate effect of an Alexander lesson is an unfamiliar feeling of lightness or expansion and feeling less weighted down. However this can only be sustained until a full course of sessions has been completed and one has practiced sufficiently.
Short Description
The Alexander Technique is a method of re-education based on awareness and conscious control of the way we move. Clients are using outside feedback to observe themselves; for example by using a mirror or by noting or describing differences one's balance and weight; or even a change in the sound of one's voice. It also involves self-observation of one's mental state by observing and evaluating any opinions that you hold about your life and yourself. The Alexander Technique is then used by the client in daily life while doing any other activity. It is not a form of exercise that 'needs to be done'. It is a very potent method but to get the most out of Alexander Technique you will ideally require a series of 10-20 sessions.
Availability, Price and Booking
Alexander Technique is available every Wednesday from 2.30 to 9.30 pm. Each Alexander technique session lasts 45 minutes and costs £32. Marie-Ange can be contacted on 01722-744551 for information or to make an appointment.
OSTEOPATHY
CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY or CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
What for?
Craniosacral therapy can be used for neck and back pain, mental stress, migraines, TMJ Syndrome and chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. Because it is quite gentle, craniosacral therapy is safe and suitable for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly, pregnant women and also in fragile and painful conditions. Work on newborn babies can very quickly help to realign the body, especially after a traumatic birth. It saves the child from any worsening of the stress patterns later in life.
Short description
Cranial osteopathy is a manually applied subtle movement of the spinal and cranial bones in an attempt to bring the central nervous system into harmony. This therapy involves assessing the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which can be restricted by trauma to the body, such as through falls, accidents, and general nervous tension. Trained and experienced craniosacral therapists are able to read this tension through their hands and can use it to identify where the tensions are. To do so the therapist will gently touch you on the head, on your feet or under your sacrum. You may feel a deep sense of relaxation, heat, a chill or you may even fall asleep. By gently working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, the restrictions of nerve passages are eased, the movement of CSF through the spinal cord can be optimized, and misaligned bones are restored to their proper position. Cranial Osteopathy was originated by physician William Sutherland, D.O. (1873-1954), who studied under the founder of osteopathy, Andrew Taylor Still, at the first American School of Osteopathy.
